Secreted immunoglobulins (Ig) have two separable functions: one is to bind specifically to pathogenic molecules, the other is to recruit cells and molecules to destroy the opsonized pathogen. IgG in chicken (also called IgY) has a tetrameric structure consisting of two identical light chains (Mr = 24 kDa) and two identical heavy chains (Mr = 73 kDa).
Immunoglobulin isolated from chicken serum
HYB 208-03 is specific for chicken Ig
HYB 208-03 reacts strongly with chicken Ig. Strong reaction is seen in ELISA with chicken Ig directly coated onto the microtiterwell and when tested in sandwich ELISA in combination with a polyclonal antibody against chicken Ig (eg. rabbit anti chicken IgG from Sigma). In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, HYB 208-03 reacts with chicken Ig heavy chain in both reduced and non-reduced forms.
