Poliovirus belongs to the Picornaviruses characterized by their small (7.2bk to 8.5 kb) RNA genome. Poliovirus is a enterovirus which primarily infect the gastroentestinal associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) and can eventually spread to the central nervous system and cause paralysis. Mortality, though very rare, is usually due to respiratory failure by paralysis of the intercostal muscles and diaphragm.
Poliovirus type 1 (inactivated)
HYB 295-17 is specific for poliovirus type 1
Not determined
HYB 295-17 reacts with poliovirus type 1. A reaction is seen in ELISA with poliovirus type 1 directly coated onto the microtiter well.
